Job Purpose

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Business Leader with strong business development skills in the civil engineering sector. The ideal candidate will drive business growth, manage client relationships, and lead project teams in delivering high-quality civil engineering projects focused on substations, access roads, foundations, and heavy structures in Scotland. The role demands a leader who can identify new business opportunities, manage key accounts, and ensure that project execution aligns with client needs and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development:

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the civil engineering sector, particularly in projects related to substations, access roads, foundations, and heavy structures
  • Develop and implement strategic business development plans to expand the company's presence in the Scottish market
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and government authorities
  • Lead negotiations on contracts and project agreements to ensure profitable and sustainable growth
  • Participate in industry events, conferences, and forums to enhance the company’s visibility and network within the civil engineering sector

Client Relationship Management:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring excellent service delivery and client satisfaction
  • Understand client needs and challenges to offer tailored solutions that meet project objectives
  • Monitor client feedback and ensure continuous improvement in service delivery
  • Proactively manage expectations and resolve any issues or disputes that arise during project execution

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of civil engineers, project managers, and business development professionals
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and high performance across the team
  • Oversee the resource planning and allocation to ensure timely and effective project execution
  • Promote a safe working environment, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations

Project Management:

  • Collaborate with project teams to oversee the successful planning, execution, and completion of civil engineering projects
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to budget, while maintaining high standards of quality and safety
  • Monitor project progress and performance, providing regular reports to senior management and stakeholders
  • Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure smooth project delivery

Market and Industry Analysis:

  • Keep up-to-date with market trends, competitor activity, and regulatory changes in the civil engineering and infrastructure sectors
  • Provide insights into the Scottish civil engineering market, particularly in areas like renewable energy infrastructure and large-scale public sector projects
  • Use market intelligence to adjust business strategies and ensure the company remains competitive and innovative

Qualifications and Skills

  • Educational Background: Degree in Civil Engineering, Business Management, or a related field
  • Experience: Experience in business development, leadership, and project management in the civil engineering or construction industry, ideally within the infrastructure and heavy structures sectors
  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of civil engineering practices and technical requirements for substations, access roads, foundations, and large-scale structural projects
  • Business Development Skills: Proven track record of securing new business opportunities, managing client relationships, and driving revenue growth
  • Leadership: Demonstrated leadership and team management experience, with the ability to motivate and guide teams to success
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to overcoming challenges
  • Negotiation: Skilled in contract negotiations and business deals, with a focus on achieving win-win outcomes for the company and its clients
  • Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with the civil engineering and infrastructure landscape in Scotland, including relevant regulations, industry standards, and market trends

  • Willingness to travel across Scotland and occasionally to other UK regions as needed
  • Full UK driving license
