We’re growing and looking for an HV Commissioning Engineer to play a key role in delivering testing, commissioning, and technical support across HV and LV systems.
What you’ll be doing
This is a hands-on, site-based role working across multiple HV projects, supporting commissioning, testing, and fault investigation activities.
You’ll be responsible for:
Testing and commissioning HV and LV systems and substation equipment
Commissioning protection relays and schemes (including Overcurrent, Earth Fault, Differential, G99 and transformer protection)
Carrying out fault finding and investigation across a range of HV/LV assets
Supporting switching operations (11kV / 33kV) where authorised
Testing equipment including:
Transformers (power and distribution)
CTs / VTs
Circuit breakers (oil, gas, vacuum, air)
RMUs, cables, busbars, battery tripping systems
Interpreting schematics and wiring diagrams
Producing test procedures, commissioning reports, and documentation
Supporting engineering teams across regional projects
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for a practical, technically strong commissioning engineer with HV experience and a proactive approach on site.
Essential:
Experience in HV testing, commissioning, or protection systems
Strong understanding of power systems and substation equipment
Ability to work independently and as part of project teams
Experience interpreting technical drawings and schematics
Desirable:
Experience with or working towards SAP (Senior Authorised Person) status
Experience with 11kV / 33kV switching operations
Knowledge of protection settings, grading studies, and relay testing
Previous experience across industrial, utilities, or infrastructure projects
Qualifications
BTEC Level 3 in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) – essential
HNC in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) – desirable
AP15 / SAP authorisation (or equivalent) – desirable
