Senior Project Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer with Structural Dam or Major Concrete Structures experience to join Seymour Whyte in this exciting opportunity in South West Queensland. Initially based in the SMEC alliance office in Brisbane, then relocating to the site office in outside Toowoomba, at Cressbrook Dam. Relocation and project site conditions are on offer.

Seymour Whyte, in an alliance with SMEC and Toowoomba Regional Council, has been awarded the Cressbrook Dam Safety Improvement Project to increase flood capacity and resilience for the region. Representing our client’s largest project to date, the project involves raising the dam crest height, and widening the spillway whilst also aligning the structure with current engineering design standards to ensure the dam’s long-term viability.

Toowoomba, The Garden City, is renowned for its expansive public gardens, notably the Japanese Garden and Queens Park, and the famous Carnival of Flowers. About the role:

  • Lead a safety-focused culture, ensuring compliance with HSEQ responsibilities in project plans.
  • Acquire and apply knowledge of key management plans and procedures, such as PSP, EMP, PQP, CMP, and WRMP.
  • Engage in developing and reviewing risk assessments, SWMS, and THRCs, focusing on high-risk activities.
  • Understand client specifications for timely progression of Quality system requirements, including ITPs, Lot Closure, and NCRs.
  • Develop a working understanding of Head Contract requirements, including progress and variation claims, while identifying contractual risks and opportunities.

The successful applicant will have the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or its equivalent.
  • Significant experience delivering a structural dam project.
  • Advanced computer literacy (e.g. Microsoft Suite, Viewpoint, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of Quality procedures, WHS, Environmental and HR/ IR procedures.
  • Ability to produce Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) and ITP’s for all trades.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Current C-Class Driver’s License.
