HEB Construction is seeking an experienced Asphalt Manager to lead our Auckland asphalt surfacing business following an internal promotion.
This is more than an operational management role. It's an opportunity to take ownership of a successful, established business unit with a strong market reputation, a healthy forward workload, and a talented team of approximately 40 people delivering quality outcomes across the greater Auckland region.

We're looking for a proven roading and surfacing leader who can provide direction, build capability, strengthen client relationships, and continue driving performance while maintaining the practical, hands-on leadership style that our teams value.

The Opportunity

Based from our Wiri office, you'll lead an experienced and successful team comprising Project Managers, Project Engineers, Supervisors, Foremen, Crew Members, Cadets, Milling and Transport resources. You'll be responsible for the overall performance of the Auckland asphalt operation, including safety, people leadership, operational delivery, commercial outcomes, client relationships, equipment management, succession planning and business growth.

This is a role for someone who enjoys balancing strategic leadership with operational involvement. You'll be expected to set the direction, remove barriers, build strong relationships across the industry, and support the team to deliver outstanding results.

What You'll Be Doing

• Leading a high-performing surfacing business and team of approximately 40 people.
• Driving safety, operational excellence and commercial performance across Auckland.
• Coaching and developing future leaders while building team capability and succession.
• Building strong relationships with clients, suppliers, consultants and industry partners.
• Identifying opportunities for growth, continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
• Providing visible, hands-on leadership, making sound decisions and leading through change and ambiguity.

About You

We're looking for a respected roading professional with the credibility, leadership presence and practical experience to earn the trust of crews, customers and industry stakeholders alike.

You will bring:

• Extensive experience in asphalt, surfacing, roading or civil infrastructure operations.
• Proven success leading high-performing teams in a contracting environment.
• Strong operational knowledge of surfacing delivery, plant and equipment.
• Commercially astute with the ability to drive business performance.
• Skilled at building relationships across clients, suppliers and industry networks.
• A strategic, hands-on leader who leads by example and develops people.
• Adaptable, influential and comfortable leading through change and ambiguity.
• A Civil Engineering qualification or equivalent industry experience would be highly regarded.
