About the Role
Actemium Automation Teesside is seeking an experienced Software Control Systems Engineer to support the design, development, commissioning and maintenance of industrial automation and control systems across manufacturing and process industries.
Working alongside project managers, engineers and customers, you'll deliver reliable automation solutions from concept through to commissioning and handover. You'll also play a key role in leveraging emerging AI technologies to enhance engineering efficiency and customer solutions.

Key Responsibilities
Develop and commission PLC, DCS, HMI and SCADA systems.
Design and implement industrial control software and automation solutions.
Produce software specifications, test plans and technical documentation.
Configure and integrate PLCs, drives, instrumentation, safety and communication systems.
Conduct FAT, SAT, testing and system validation activities.
Support installation, commissioning, fault finding and optimisation on customer sites.
Collaborate with project teams, customers and suppliers throughout the project lifecycle.
Ensure compliance with customer specifications, engineering standards and health & safety requirements.
Contribute to project planning, estimating and continuous improvement initiatives.
About You
You'll have:
Proven experience in industrial automation, control systems or software engineering.
Strong PLC programming and commissioning experience within industrial environments.
Experience with platforms such as Siemens (TIA Portal/PCS7), Rockwell (FactoryTalk/PlantPAx), Schneider Electric or Mitsubishi.
Knowledge of HMI, SCADA, industrial networks, drives and system integration.
Experience with industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Profibus and Modbus TCP/IP.
Strong fault-finding, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.
The ability to travel to customer sites, including occasional overnight stays.
A full UK driving licence (or ability to travel to project locations).
Desirable
Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent in Electrical, Automation, Control Systems or Software Engineering.
Experience with safety systems and safety PLCs.
Knowledge of robotics, motion control or process automation.
Experience delivering projects from design through to commissioning.
Exposure to power and energy automation projects, including substation SCADA, data centre power management, COPA-DATA zenon or Siemens WinCC OA.
