Quality Control Coordinator

JOB PURPOSE

Oversee and implement the project’s Quality Control Plan, ensuring all work meets contract, regulatory, and Ministry standards. Lead inspections and testing, manage non-conformances, and maintain accurate documentation to support the Quality Manager and Project Director in delivering a safe, compliant, high-quality project.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Site Safety

  • Ensure compliance with OH&S manual, Worker’s Compensation Act, Employment Standards Act, and WorkSafeBC regulations
  • Meet QMP requirements
  • Assist with Pre-Job Hazard Assessments and Site-Specific Safety Plans with Superintendent & Safety Dept
  • Contribute to development of job-specific Work Plans
  • Monitor and identify site hazards with Superintendent, Foreman, and crew
  • Ensure work considers potential 3rd-party liabilities
  • Ensure all workers complete Project-Specific Orientation
  • Monitor site cleanliness, housekeeping, vehicles, and equipment
  • Participate in incident investigations when required
  • Actively engage in Daily Work Plans, Site Inspections, and Toolbox Meetings

Quality Management & Implementation

  • Implement and manage FVSP’s Quality Control Plan across all project activities.
  • Ensure full compliance with contract quality requirements
  • Stop work immediately when materials, processes, or submittals are found to be deficient.
  • Develop detailed inspection and testing plans for each element of work.
  • Develop and maintain acceptance/non-acceptance reports and QC checklists in accordance with contractual specifications.

Oversight & Coordination

  • Oversee quality reviews for in-house and subcontracted work to ensure contract compliance
  • Ensure all site personnel follow the QC Plan and project specifications
  • Ensure QC checklists are properly completed and signed off by responsible parties.
  • Coordinate testing and inspection schedules with the superintendent and forepersons
  • Monitor and verify subcontractors’ testing and inspection procedures.
  • Reporting and documentation
  • Review, sign, and maintain responsibility for inspection and testing reports.
  • Provide weekly and monthly summary reports on testing and inspection results.
  • Maintain a well-organized filing system for quality records to ensure audit readiness and accessibility.
  • Initiate and manage the non-conformance process when materials or workmanship do not meet specifications.
  • Coordinate corrective actions in consultation with the Contractor Representative.
  • Respond promptly to all Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) issued by the Ministry Representative.

Liaison & Communication

  • Communicate with the Ministry Representative on quality-related matters.
  • Ensure all required approvals and permits are obtained in a timely manner.
  • Report any issues affecting the integrity of the Quality Management System to company leadership.

Equipment & Compliance

  • Verify that all testing equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
  • Ensure an auditable trail exists for all survey computations and quality records.

QUALIFICATIONS 

Essential Qualifications

  • Professional designation as a Qualified Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), Certified Engineering Technician (C.E.T.), Applied Science Technologist (A.Sc.T.), or another qualified equivalent credentials acceptable to the Ministry.
  • Extensive knowledge and a minimum of 5 years of experience in quality management for civil infrastructure or construction projects.
  • Proven ability to implement and manage QC Plans in compliance with contractual and regulatory standards.
  • Proven experience in inspection, testing, and reporting for large-scale infrastructure or road construction projects.
  • Solid understanding of quality management systems, construction specifications, and testing standards.
  • Strong ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and test data.
  • Proficient in documentation control, report preparation, and maintaining auditable quality records.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and coordination skills for working with teams, subcontractors, and Ministry representatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve non-conformances promptly.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Applied Science (or equivalent field).
  • Prior experience with Ministry of Transportation projects or public infrastructure contracts.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality management systems or equivalent industry standards.
  • Experience managing subcontractor quality programs and overseeing third-party inspection/testing services.
  • Working knowledge of surveying principles, testing methodologies, and equipment calibration requirements.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proactive, decisive, and confident in making quality-related judgments, including halting non-compliant work when necessary.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities to effectively support the Quality Manager and Project Director.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and promoting a culture of quality across all project teams.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS ON THE ROLE

Location: West Bound Bradner Rest Area site office - Abbotsford, BC

Pay:  $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
