Graduate Mechanical Stress Engineer

19/12/2024

NUVIA are now recruiting for Mechanical (Analysis) Engineering roles based at either our Didcot or Risley (Warrington) offices. We are growing engineering teams across our locations and a number of roles are available dependent on experience.

As a Mechanical Engineer specialising in Engineering (stress) Analysis you will join our Graduate Programme for two years during which you will build experience and design techniques and appreciate the whole life cycle of engineering consultancy projects. Most of this is achieved by day-to-day guidance in live projects, some big and some small. This may include initial concept design through optioneering, detailed design, substantiation of designs and decommissioning. As well as receiving first-class training and support in design and stress analysis techniques such as ANSYS, LS-DYNA & CAD, you’ll work alongside and learn from some of the most respected and highly qualified professionals in their field. Your training will be structured to provide you with the skills and experience to apply for membership of the IMechE and become a professional accredited engineer.

You will be an active team member in a supportive work environment, contributing to the achievement of real business objectives and assigned to live projects - some of which are the largest and most exciting projects taking place within the nuclear industry.

NUVIA is a consultancy, so our focus is on providing technical services to the Nuclear Industry (office-based) rather than manufacturing. As part of the Analysis Team, you will gain the experience required to grow in responsibility for delivering and planning engineering tasks of increasing size as your career progresses. The area of Engineering Analysis (eg, using Finite Element modelling and Hand Calculations) is treated as a part of the formal design process and is also vital for achieving regulatory acceptance for our clients.

You will interface with other engineering disciplines, project managers and nuclear safety and package transport specialists.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Technical abilities are essential, so you will need a minimum of a 2:1 master’s or bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • We look for those with a passion for engineering and problem solving who also show an aptitude for the understanding the theory side of mechanics and structures, extreme loading, stress, and failure.
  • It would benefit if you covered & enjoyed degree modules such as mechanics of structures and dynamics, preferably including an introduction to Finite Element Analysis (FEA) as well as CAD.
  • Just as important are your behaviours; we are looking out for candidates with great communication skills, who are proactive, focused, and with a willingness to learn.

Why us?

The Technical Services & Consultancy Department consists of an Analysis Team, working on our client sites. We have developed a reputation for safe, high-quality delivery of practical solutions to some of the world’s most complex challenges. For example, we have recently been responsible for the design and construction of the largest nuclear transport container ever built.

We use our engineering design and technical consulting capabilities to develop unique designs with supporting safety justification. As part of this, we offer a full package of engineering analysis to prove our structures will withstand all normal loads as well as the most extreme dynamic scenarios related to impact, fire and earthquakes amongst others, using the latest simulation and stress analysis tools.
