Job Title: Senior Data Scientist

Reporting to: IT Business Solutions Manager


Role purpose

The Senior Data Scientist will help the organisation make better use of its data. The role will develop practical analytics, machine learning and AI solutions that support decision-making, improve business performance and create measurable value.


Working closely with operational, finance, HR and our Regional teams, the Senior Data Scientist will turn business data into clear insight, predictive models and useful digital tools. The role will also support the development of the Omexom enterprise data lake and help put secure, reliable and well-governed data practices in place across the business.

Responsibilities & Duties

· Design, build and deploy machine learning and AI models that solve real business problems.

· Use data to support forecasting, planning, and better decision-making.

· Develop analytical solutions to support project delivery, workforce planning, revenue performance and operational efficiency.

· Support the design and development of the Omexom enterprise data lake.

· Help define how data is collected, stored, transformed and used across different business systems.

· Create clear standards and best practice for data science, analytics and AI projects.

· Work with business units to define data ownership, data quality and accountability.

· Identify opportunities to get more value from Omexom’s data assets.

· Review emerging AI technologies and recommend practical use cases to add business value.

· Support high availability, resilience and business continuity for key data services.

· Enable the safe deployment of AI and machine learning models across the organisation.


Qualifications and experience

The jobholder must be a results focused self-starter with the enthusiasm, motivation and initiative to succeed in this role, possessing:

· Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering or a related discipline.

· Minimum of three years’ experience in data science, data analytics, machine learning or data engineering roles.

· Strong experience developing production-grade machine learning models and analytical solutions.

· Proven ability to deliver business value through advanced analytics and data-driven insight.

· Experience working with large, complex structured and unstructured datasets.

· Experience leading data science projects and supporting or mentoring colleagues.

· Experience leading teams and providing coaching and mentorship.

Desirable:

· Master’s degree in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Statistics or a related discipline.

· PhD in a relevant analytical, scientific or technical discipline.

Technical Skills

· The role requires strong technical expertise in Python, SQL, API integrations, and developing data and analytics solutions that can grow with the business. Candidates should also have experience with modern AI technologies, including Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), Natural Language Processing (NLP), deep learning, and machine learning.

Security

· The Senior Data Scientist will be responsible for handling data securely and ethically. This includes protecting data through encryption, applying secure AI and machine learning practices, and ensuring that solutions comply with relevant regulations and security standards, including GDPR, ISO 27001, and Cyber Essentials Plus.

Soft Skills

· Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

· Analytical and practical problem-solving mindset, with a focus on continuous improvement and business value.

· Ability to manage competing priorities, work under pressure and deliver high-quality outcomes.
