Actemium Birmingham - BMS Panel Designer/Estimator

Summary
We are recruiting a skilled and organised BMS Panel Designer/Estimator to join Actemium Birmingham. This role combines technical design of building management system (BMS) control panels with accurate estimating to support quotations and project delivery. You will work closely with project managers, engineers and workshop teams to produce panel designs, prepare bills of materials, costings and technical documentation to ensure panels are manufactured and delivered to specification, on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare detailed BMS panel designs and layouts using CAD and panel design software.
Produce accurate estimates and bills of materials for control panels, including labour, components and subcontract items.
Develop panel schematics, wiring diagrams and component schedules to meet project requirements and industry standards.
Collaborate with project managers, engineers and procurement to clarify specifications, identify risks and manage variations.
Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers to obtain prices, lead times and technical data.
Ensure drawings and documentation comply with company quality, SHEQ and design procedures.
Support the workshop with build packs, assembly instructions and testing requirements.
Review and update existing panel designs to improve efficiencies, reduce costs and standardise components.
Attend site visits and client meetings as required to confirm scope and resolve technical queries.
Contribute to continuous improvement, cost saving initiatives and lessons learned activities.
About You
Proven experience in BMS or control panel design and estimating within electrical, controls or automation sectors.
Competent with AutoCAD or equivalent electrical CAD software; experience with panel layout tools desirable.
Good understanding of wiring schematics, PLC/I/O, control components and enclosure specifications.
Strong numeracy and commercial awareness with experience preparing accurate estimates and cost breakdowns.
Organised, detail‑focused and able to manage multiple quotations and design tasks to tight deadlines.
Effective communicator, able to work collaboratively with internal teams, suppliers and clients.
Familiarity with relevant standards and good practice for electrical panels and control systems.
Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites and supplier premises.
Qualifications & Experience
HNC/HND or equivalent in Electrical, Control Systems, Electronic Engineering or related discipline preferred.
Experience in panel design/estimating or similar role.
Experience working within SHEQ frameworks and following documented procedures.
E‑Plan, BMS manufacturer training, and estimating experience (desirable).
