Job Title: Carbon Specialist

Business Unit: Omexom Design

Location:England, Scotland or Wales


Role Purpose

This important role supports Omexom’s Sustainability Strategy and is instrumental in meeting company and client carbon reduction targets, ensuring project delivery aligns with PAS 2080 principles and fulfils client carbon management requirements and deliverables.

Sitting within the Design team, the role will focus on delivering Carbon Assessments and developing and coordinating Carbon Management Plans across projects in England, Scotland and Wales. The Carbon Specialist will act as a key interface between Design, Project and Bid Teams, and the Environment and Sustainability function, helping to embed carbon‑conscious decision‑making in a practical and proportionate way throughout the project lifecycle.

This role is well suited to someone with 2+ years’ experience in carbon management and/or life cycle assessment within the infrastructure or construction sector, who is looking to further develop their technical capability and influence. It may also suit a design or technical e.g engineering professional with strong knowledge of electrical infrastructure and experience in carbon assessment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake and support whole-life carbon assessments appropriate to project stage.

· Work with pre-construction and delivery teams to help interpret carbon assessment results and identify carbon reduction opportunities.

  • Support the application of PAS 2080 principles under the guidance of design and sustainability colleagues.

  • Assist with developing and embedding carbon management processes into design and delivery activities.

  • Support preparation for internal reviews and external audits relating to PAS 2080.

  • Apply agreed tools, datasets and assumptions to ensure consistency in assessments and reporting.

  • Assist in the development, coordination and maintenance of Carbon Management Plans for projects.

  • Support the identification and tracking of carbon reduction measures through design and delivery.

  • Report carbon savings on completed projects

Project Support

  • Support project teams post-award to help transition carbon requirements from bid into delivery.

  • Act as a day‑to‑day point of contact for carbon queries from design and project teams.

Collaboration & Learning

  • Work closely with:

    • Design teams to support low‑carbon design solutions

    • Environment & Sustainability colleagues to align with wider business objectives

    • Regional teams to support consistent application of carbon approaches

  • Contribute to knowledge-sharing, lessons learned and continuous improvement activities.

Reporting & Improvement

  • Assist in identifying common challenges and opportunities to improve carbon performance.

  • Contribute to the development of guidance, templates and training materials.


Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • 2–5 years’ experience in a technical role e.g engineering / design within infrastructure, utilities, energy or construction.

  • Familiarity with carbon assessment tools or databases

  • Awareness of PAS 2080 and whole-life carbon principles.

  • Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Clear communication skills, pro-active attitude, with the ability to explain carbon concepts to non-specialists.

Desirable:

  • 2–5 years’ experience in a carbon or life cycle assessment (LCA) related role.

  • Experience delivering carbon assessments or LCAs.

  • Experience supporting bids or tenders with environmental or carbon inputs.

  • Understanding of the design and delivery lifecycle of infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

  • Degree (or equivalent professional experience) in environmental, sustainability, engineering or a related discipline.

  • Holding professional membership (e.g. ISEP or similar)

  • Training or awareness courses in carbon management, LCA or PAS 2080.
