Purpose of the job
Nuvia is looking for an ambitious individual to undertake Nuvia’s Nuclear Degree Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering. Our Apprenticeship will see the successful individual placed within our Consultancy Engineering Division with separate secondments to the Core Engineering, FEA Analysis, Transport Team, and others to be arranged.

What is required
To apply for this position, you would need the following:
- 5 GCSE’s (A*-C’s or 5-9) including Maths, English and Science
- 3 A level’s (A*-C) including Maths and Science related subjects or HNC in a relevant subject
In addition to academic requirements, once the apprenticeship starts Nuvia will ask the successful individual to become a STEM ambassador, to become a member of the Young Generation Network (YGN) and complete other internal/external courses.
The role will offer several opportunities across our sites, within the UK and potentially internationally. The ideal candidate would be open to travel as part of this role, with an initial base either at our Warrington or Harwell office.
Occupational Skills and Knowledge
By the end of the apprenticeship, you will be able to:
Work competently in a technical nuclear environment, understand, and promote personal responsibility for Health, Safety, Radiation Protection, Environmental Protection, Quality, Security, Safeguards and principles of Risk Management.
Analyse engineering and scientific problems selecting and using mathematical, engineering and scientific tools to provide suitable solutions to nuclear applications, with considerations of the entire life cycle of a nuclear facility.
Develop and critically apply knowledge of the concepts, principles and theories relevant to the interdisciplinary fields of nuclear technology.
Synthesise information from a variety of sources and apply to the solution of a particular nuclear technology application.
Demonstrate an understanding of stakeholder requirements, commercial awareness, business improvement, project and business management techniques relevant to the nuclear industry.

6. Apply their science or engineering discipline knowledge to the development, operation, maintenance and progression of technologies used for decommissioning (e.g. remote handling and robotics), waste management. and Nuclear Power Generation.
7. Specify, plan, manage, conduct and report on nuclear projects
8. Accurately observe, record and draw conclusions from data and experimental evidence, recognising inherent uncertainties and limitations.
9. Demonstrate an understanding of Regulatory requirements both national and international.
10. Develop technical reports that meet requirements of the prevailing verification process.
11. Demonstrate knowledge of the nuclear industry (past, present, and future) and the business, political and community environment in which the company operates including personal role within the organisation, ethical practice and codes of conduct.
12. Demonstrate knowledge of the technology, safety, environmental and economics of nuclear fuels and the nuclear fuel cycle.
13. Apply the standards for nuclear professional practice as required by the industry and professional body institutions.
