Telecom Technician

Position summary
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Telecom Technician to join our team. The Telecom Technician will install, maintain, and troubleshoot telecommunications and network systems on industrial and commercial sites. The role requires hands-on field work, strong technical knowledge of voice, data, and radio systems, and close coordination with project teams to ensure timely, compliant delivery.
Key responsibilities
Installation : Install fiber optic and copper cabling, racks, patch panels, junction boxes, network switches, routers, PBX systems, and wireless access points according to design and industry standards.
Testing & commissioning : Perform end-to-end testing of cabling and equipment (OTDR, power meter, signal level tests), validate network connectivity, and complete commissioning checklists.
Maintenance & troubleshooting : Diagnose and repair faults in telecom and data networks, radio links, and associated hardware; perform preventive maintenance to minimize downtime.
Documentation : Produce and update as-built drawings, test reports, cable schedules, and handover documentation in accordance with project requirements.
Compliance & safety : Work in compliance with site safety rules, project procedures, and industry standards; participate in toolbox talks and risk assessments.
Collaboration : Coordinate with project managers, engineers, vendors, and clients to ensure seamless integration and timely completion of telecom scopes.
Continuous improvement : Suggest and implement improvements to installation methods, testing procedures, and inventory management to enhance service quality and efficiency.
Required qualifications & skills
Diploma or technical certificate in telecommunications, electronics, IT, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Proven experience installing and maintaining telecom, data, and wireless systems in industrial or commercial environments.
Hands-on experience with fiber splicing, OTDR testing, cable certification, network configuration (switches/routers), and basic PBX/VoIP systems.
Familiarity with industry standards and practices for cabling (TIA/EIA, ISO/IEC) and grounding/earthing principles.
Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Good communication skills in English; additional languages are a plus.
Willingness to travel to project sites and work in outdoor or industrial environments; valid driver’s license preferred.
Desirable qualifications
Certifications such as FOA, BICSI, CCNA, or vendor-specific training.
Experience with SCADA communications, industrial Ethernet, or radio systems.
Experience working in regulated industries (oil & gas, utilities, renewables) is an advantage.
