Civil Structural Engineer (Client Side: 13890)

We are recruiting an experienced Civil Structural Engineer to support one of our leading defence clients, on an embedded basis. The role can be worked on a mostly remote basis, with some travel required to the client's site in Plymouth. Please note that we are actively recruiting on either a contract basis (Inside IR35) or alternatively on a permanent basis, direct with NUVIA UK. 

Please note the ability to obtain BPSS level security clearance is essential, as a minimum.

About the role:

The primary purpose of the role of Civil Structural Engineer is to ultimately assist and support the Design Manager in the delivery of project scope. This will include the following;

  • To undertake the delivery of structural engineering activities to the required scope, quality, schedule and cost.
  • Responsible for technical aspects of the structural engineering work packages from identification of the need, through to handover.
  • Undertake technical delivery of one or more design packages as directed by the Principal Civil & Structural Engineer.
  • Ensure that the design documentation covers the scope of operations required by the Project Manager and is produced to agreed standards, schedule and budget.
  • The Civil Structural Engineer shall plan for effective project implementation.
  • Ensuring effective Quality Management Arrangements, operate and deliver through compliance with Babcock’s Business Management System and Technical Manual.
  • Support ensuring that the processes and activities being undertaken are appropriately documented with appropriate records maintained and configuration and quality controls applied.
  • Support ensuring that staff and contractors are familiar with the hazards and risks associated with the work undertaken by the delegated engineering team through effective management and communication of the Risk Assessment.

Qualifications Required:

  • The Civil Structural Engineer will have a degree or equivalent in a Civil or Structural engineering related discipline.
  • Preferably working towards Chartered Engineer status and member of relevant institute.

Experience Required:

  • Design of heavy civil engineering and building structures to relevant codes, preferably including seismic codes.
  • The Civil Structural Engineer must have knowledge of architectural design of industrial buildings, building services design and installation & construction techniques employed structures.
  • Able to demonstrate relevant knowledge and skills required in technical design development.
  • Sound understanding of engineering design and safety practice as relevant to discipline, post and project requirements.
  • Sound understanding of Company and departmental procedures relating to Design, Health & Safety and Quality requirements, and ability to manage tasks in accordance with these procedures.
