Commissioning Technician

Role Overview

A substation commissioning technician is responsible for the preparation and carry out basic testing, inspection, and work with commissioning engineer in commissioning of electrical substations.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

The job duties of a substation commissioning technician generally include:

  1. Help commissioning engineers to develop commissioning plans and procedures for substation projects.

  2. Help commissioning engineers to coordinate with the project team to ensure that construction activities meet the project requirements.

  3. Conduct site inspections and testing to verify the substation equipment meets the required specifications.

  4. Ensure that all safety procedures and regulations are followed during the commissioning process.

  5. Perform basic plant testing required in commissioning process.

  6. Basic Protection and Control testing is not mandatory but desirable.

  7. Follow the substation commissioning schedule.

  8. Perform troubleshooting to resolve basic issues identified during the commissioning process.

  9. Develop and maintain documentation related to the commissioning process, including test reports, inspection reports, and equipment manuals.

  10. Train and mentor junior technicians as needed.


Knowledge, Skills and Experience

The substation commissioning technician must have a basic knowledge of electrical engineering principles and be familiar with substation equipment and systems. They should have excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work independently or as part of a team.


Qualifications

A HNC degree in electrical engineering or a related field is not mandatory but typically required, along with relevant experience in substation construction or commissioning.
