Job Title: Environmental & Sustainability Manager

Business Unit: TOHL

Reporting to: BUGM and Regional Environment and Sustainability Manager

Location: Scotland (site-based with regional travel)

Role Purpose

Omexom is seeking an experienced Project Environmental Manager to support the delivery of major electrical transmission, distribution and energy infrastructure projects across Scotland.

The role will provide expert environmental leadership and assurance at project level, ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, client requirements and Omexom’s management systems, while proactively driving environmental best practice across construction activities.

This is a key role supporting Omexom’s commitment to safe, sustainable and responsible delivery of critical infrastructure within sensitive landscapes and communities.

Key Responsibilities

Project Environmental Management

• Provide day-to-day environmental & sustainability leadership on assigned projects, acting as the primary point of contact for technical environmental matters.

• Ensure projects are planned and delivered in compliance with:

o UK and Scottish environmental legislation

o Planning conditions and environmental commitments

o Omexom Integrated Management System (IMS)

• Review environmental risks and controls through design, construction and commissioning phases.

Environmental Planning & Compliance

• Prepare, review and maintain project-specific environmental documentation, including:

o Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs)

o Site Waste Management Plans

o Pollution Prevention Plans

o Method Statements and Risk Assessments (RAMS)

• Ensure environmental controls are embedded into construction methodologies.

• Undertake regular site inspections and audits, identifying non-conformances and driving corrective actions.

Stakeholder & Regulator Engagement

• Act as environmental liaison with:

o Clients and their representatives

o Regulators (e.g. SEPA, Local Authorities, NatureScot)

o Landowners and external stakeholders where required

• Support the discharge of planning conditions and consents.

• Assist project teams in responding to environmental incidents, complaints and regulator enquiries.

Advice, Training & Continuous Improvement

• Provide competent environmental and sustainability advice to Project Managers, Site Managers and Engineers.

• Deliver environmental inductions, toolbox talks and targeted training to site teams and subcontractors.

• Promote environmental best practice, innovation and continuous improvement across projects.

• Support the investigation of incidents, near misses and non-compliances, contributing to lessons learned.

Reporting & Performance

• Monitor and report environmental and sustainability performance against project and business KPIs.

• Contribute to internal and external reporting requirements.

• Support audits, inspections and management reviews as required.

• Champion Omexom’s Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) culture.

• Demonstrate visible environmental leadership on site.

• Act in accordance with Omexom values and ethical standards at all times.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

Essential

• Degree (or equivalent) in an environmental, sustainability or related discipline.

• Demonstrable experience in an environmental role within construction or civil engineering, preferably utilities, power or infrastructure.

• Strong working knowledge of UK environmental legislation and Scottish regulatory requirements.

• Experience developing and implementing CEMPs and environmental controls on live projects.

• Confidence engaging with site teams, clients and regulators.

• Full UK driving license.

Desirable

• Chartered or working towards Chartered status (IEMA, CIWEM or similar).

• Experience of working in a consultancy, civil engineering & infrastructure projects would be desirable.

• Knowledge of environmental impact assessments (EIA) and consented schemes.

• Internal or external environmental auditing experience.
