About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Health Physics Monitor to join our team on a highly regulated Nuclear Decommissioning site in West Cumbria. This role is essential in maintaining radiation safety and environmental standards while supporting decommissioning activities on site. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring radiological safety through meticulous monitoring, compliance with regulatory guidelines, and adherence to safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
· Conduct routine radiation and contamination surveys, including personnel, equipment, and environmental monitoring, to ensure compliance with safety standards.
· Perform daily operational checks on radiation monitoring instruments and report any faults for timely maintenance or calibration.
· Support the planning and implementation of radiological protection measures, contributing to risk.
· Handle and manage radioactive sources according to established site protocols, including source muster and tracking activities.
· Undertake radiological sampling and analysis, such as air and surface contamination monitoring, to identify potential risks.
· Accurately maintain records and documentation of radiation surveys, sample results, and other monitoring activities.
· Work in collaboration with the Health Physics Supervisor, providing on-the-job support and guidance to colleagues regarding radiological safety practices.
· Respond to emergency situations and follow protocols to ensure personal safety and the safety of others in high-risk areas.
· Contribute to safety briefings, risk assessments, and toolbox talks, highlighting potential hazards and safe systems of work.
· Maintain site safety and compliance
Qualifications and Experience:
· Minimum NVQ Level 2 in Radiation Protection or equivalent qualifications in a science/engineering-related field.
· City and Guilds stage 1 Radiation and Safety Practice
· Experience working on nuclear, decommissioning, or similarly regulated industrial sites is preferred.
· Thorough understanding of radiological protection principles, including experience with monitoring equipment (e.g., EPDs, contamination monitors).
· Working knowledge of current health and safety legislation, including COSHH, RIDDOR, and ALARP principles.
· Strong analytical skills and attention to detail with the ability to accurately log and report data.
