Job Title: Engineering Planner

Location: West Burton (Hybrid)

Salary Banding: £52,500-£75,000 (Dependant on experience)

We are actively recruiting on either a contract or permanent basis.

Description of job:

The Engineering Planner is responsible for developing detailed Level 4 (L4) engineering schedules to support the successful delivery of complex projects and programmes. The role works closely with Engineering leads, Technical Authorities, Project Managers, STEP Planners and delivery teams ensuring that engineering activities, deliverables, resources, dependencies, and milestones are effectively planned, integrated, monitored, and reported throughout the engineering lifecycle.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain detailed Level 4 (L4) engineering schedules covering requirements, design, development, integration, verification, validation, testing, manufacturing, commissioning, and acceptance activities.
  • Define and maintain Level 4 schedule deliverables, activities, logics, dependencies, milestones, constraints, and critical paths.
  • Align Level 4 engineering deliverables and work packages with Level 3 (L 3) programme schedules and approved Work Breakdown Structures (WBS).
  • Develop an Integrated Engineering Level 4 Schedules that support Level 3 programme deliverables.
  • Integrate engineering schedules with programme, project, supplier, manufacturing, procurement, commissioning, and customer schedules.
  • Establish Level 4 schedule assumptions, schedule methodologies, progress measurement criteria, and scheduling standards.
  • Develop and maintain engineering resource-loaded schedules and resource profiles.
  • Identify engineering resource demand by discipline, work package, and project phase.
  • Identify, analyse, and manage internal and external engineering dependencies.
  • Develop and maintain dependency registers and interface schedules.
  • Coordinate planning activities across multiple engineering disciplines and functional teams.
  • Ensure alignment between engineering deliverables and STEP programme milestones.
  • Support cross-functional integration between engineering, manufacturing, procurement, supply chain, and project delivery teams.
  • Develop and implement engineering Level 4 schedule update and progress collection processes.
  • Define engineering level 4 schedule deliverables success criteria.

Qualifications, experience and skills:

  • APM, PRINCE2, MSP, PMI-SP, or equivalent professional qualifications.
  • Degree in Engineering, Physics, Project Management, Construction Management, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong understanding of Systems Engineering and engineering lifecycle management.
  • Experience in developing engineering resource-loaded schedules and resource profiles.
  • Strong experience developing and maintaining detailed schedules using Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.
  • Understanding of engineering lifecycle processes and systems engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling techniques.
  • Experience managing dependencies, interfaces, and schedule integration activities.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVM).
  • Understanding of engineering, manufacturing, testing, and commissioning environments.
  • Experience in Defence, Aerospace, Rail, Nuclear, Energy, Infrastructure, or Manufacturing sectors.
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
