What is the project?
The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment program involves designing and building a new deep-water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant's cooling system. This will involve:
- A 1.5 km-long tunnel, built by a pressurized TBM (10.5 m diameter slurry TBM);
- Two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore);
- An offshore modular intake structure, resting on the lake bed.
The project is distinguished by its proximity to an active nuclear site, requiring rigorous standards of safety, planning and coordination.
What you will do:
The Senior Accountant will play a key part in supporting the company's full-cycle accounting function, while providing operational and project accounting support. Engaged in job costing, project accounting, contract administration, and financial reporting, they will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, while ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timely delivery of financial information.
Concretely, your tasks will be:
- Oversee, guide, and review full-cycle accounting processes
- Prepare bank, accounts receivable, prepaid expenses, capital assets, accounts payable and accrued liabilities reconciliations accurately and timely
- Prepare and maintain monthly working papers and reconciliations for other general ledger accounts
- Review payroll, liaises with external payroll services
- Support the preparation and filing of HST returns, payroll remittances and statutory compliance reporting.
- Ensure financial records are maintained in accordance with relevant legislation
- Capital asset management through detailed tracking
- Maintain and monitor accounts payable and ensure all supplier invoices are paid accurately and timely
- Review subcontractor invoices, holdbacks, change orders, and progress billings.
- Ensure compliance with Ontario Construction Act holdback requirements and contractual obligations.
- Support project setup, cost code maintenance, and contract administration within the accounting system.
- Strengthen and maintain internal controls, accounting procedures, and best practices.
- Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) related to projects and operations.
- Assist with internal and external audits including the preparation of working papers, schedules, and supporting documentation.
- Maintain internal control and adhere to the company’s policies and procedures
- Prepares ad-hoc reports and other tasks, as required
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or other relevant degree
- 10 years’ of progressive accounting experience
- CPA designation or working toward completion preferred
- Advanced knowledge of Excel, with ERP/accounting systems
- Experience in the construction industry is an asset
- Experience working in a lean organization with broad responsibilities
- High self-management capabilities
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, interpersonal, and relationship building skills
- Gross annual salary between 100K and 120K. depending on experience and profile
