BMS Panel Designer/Estimator
Actemium Birmingham, part of VINCI Energies UK & ROI are seeking a skilled BMS Panel Designer / Estimator to support the design, estimation, and delivery of Building Management System (BMS) and lighting control projects. This role combines technical BMS design with commercial estimating, supporting projects from early opportunity evaluation through to detailed design and handover.
You will work closely with project managers, engineers, electricians, and clients to ensure technically accurate, commercially viable, and compliant solutions are delivered.
These positions are offered on an opportunistic basis, with final role definition and seniority determined by the experience and strengths of the appointed individuals.
Key Responsibilities
Develop BMS points schedules, material selections, and engineering requirements from specifications and drawings
Produce accurate estimates for BMS materials and labour costs
Prepare and issue proposals and tender documentation for BMS projects
Review supplier and subcontractor quotations, negotiating to achieve best value
Interpret M&E drawings and prepare accurate take-offs from schematics
Evaluate technical building services requirements, determining costs, prices, and margins
Create quotations that align with both customer requirements and business objectives
Review bid opportunities and liaise with M&E clients to meet project deadlines
Work closely with Project Managers to accommodate changing project requirements
Complete site surveys for BMS and lighting opportunities
Convert design and operational information into detailed design and time allocations
Produce designs supported by ROI calculations and detailed cost estimation sheets
Convert operational procedures into E‑Plan, developing cost centres for time and expense allocation
Provide technical support and guidance to project electricians and engineers
Develop commissioning documentation, methodologies, and reports to support successful project completion
Maintain strict adherence to quality standards and health & safety requirements
Assist the Senior Contracts Engineer with detailed project design once contracts are secured
Knowledge & Experience
Strong technical knowledge of BMS systems, panels, and associated controls
Good understanding of estimating processes and use of empirical cost data
Experience preparing quotations, tenders, and commercial proposals
Confidence liaising with clients, suppliers, and internal teams
Requirements
HNC/HND in Electrical, Building Services, or Controls Engineering (or equivalent experience)
Experience in BMS design, estimating, or panel design
Ability to read technical drawings and schematics
E‑Plan, BMS manufacturer training, and estimating experience desirable
