To support the successful delivery of a major international construction project in a challenging environment, we are looking for an experienced Laboratory Manager (M/F). 

In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing all laboratory activities related to construction materials testing, ensuring compliance with project requirements, applicable standards, and quality objectives. You will manage laboratory operations, supervise testing activities, and support project teams by providing accurate and reliable test results throughout the project lifecycle. 

This position will be based abroad in a demanding and remote environment, with regular interaction with site teams and project stakeholders.

Reporting to the Construction Manager and HQ Geotechnical Manager, your main responsibilities will include :

• Setting up and managing the project laboratory, from equipment calibration to client certification requirements.
• Organising daily laboratory operations, including maintenance activities and consumables management.
• Planning laboratory workloads and coordinating the activities of technicians and operators.
• Ensuring quality control of laboratory testing activities and compliance with applicable standards.
• Reviewing and issuing laboratory test reports.
• Monitoring testing programmes and supporting field testing activities.
• Coordinating laboratory and site testing activities with project teams.
• Training and supporting technicians and operators in laboratory and field testing procedures.
• Ensuring laboratory equipment is properly maintained, verified and calibrated.

• Minimum 5 years of experience in laboratory and field testing of soils, aggregates and concrete.
• Previous experience managing a construction materials laboratory.
• Strong team leadership and people management skills.
• Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 requirements; knowledge of Australian and NSW RMS standards would be an advantage.
• Experience preparing and reporting certified laboratory test results.
• Strong planning, prioritisation and organisational abilities.
• Knowledge of WHS compliance and risk management requirements.
• Experience working with laboratory testing equipment and associated software tools.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Resilient, adaptable and capable of working in remote and demanding environments.
• Good command of English is essential.
