Design Manager

30/6/2026

We are seeking an experienced Design Manager with a strong background in water infrastructure to lead major water and wastewater infrastructure D&C projects. You will manage design teams, drive alignment across project stakeholders and ensure designs meet technical, commercial and client requirements. This role will see you own design management plans, oversee HSEQ compliance and act as the key link between construction and design teams.

You will bring proven experience across water projects such as treatment plants, pipelines, pump stations or wastewater facilities, along with a collaborative and solutions focused approach. You will support bids, manage consultants and build strong client relationships, while driving innovation, managing risk and ensuring high quality, compliant design outcomes.

About Seymour Whyte:

We are a successful civil contracting business that has been operating in Australia for over 35 years. With the agility and personal connection of a Tier 2, yet the expertise of a Tier 1, and the enhanced resources of one of the largest, world-class construction companies, VINCI, our employees and clients get the best of three worlds.

As a progressive, leading civil engineering firm built on the strong foundations of our unique history, we engage, enable and empower our people to be better. With you, we are altogether stronger, in building the future we want.

About the Role:

  • Develop, communicate, and adhere to project Design Management Plans, ensuring all team members, suppliers, and subcontractors are aligned
  • Select, manage, and support project design team members (consultants), setting clear expectations and driving performance improvements as needed
  • Lead the bid management process, ensuring design deliverables are completed on time and providing feedback to estimators, construction personnel, and planners
  • Act as the key communication link between construction teams and designers, promptly communicating changes in scope, design, or methodology
  • Champion innovation and value engineering across all design and bid projects, maintaining a risk register and facilitating risk reviews with designers
  • Liaise with client representatives to understand and manage expectations, ensuring the project meets all technical and performance requirements and that design briefs are fully interpreted and delivered

About you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated experience managing design for water infrastructure projects, such as treatment plants, wastewater facilities, pipelines, and pump stations etc
  • Proven ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams, ensuring technical and performance requirements are met for water sector projects
  • Strong understanding of regulatory, environmental, and industry standards relevant to water infrastructure design and delivery
  • Track record of driving innovation and value engineering to optimise outcomes in water-related projects
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience liaising with clients, authorities, and internal teams

Seymour Whyte benefits:

  • Salary continuance insurance support
  • Competitive remuneration with regular market reviews to ensure fair and equitable pay
  • Generous bonus programs that recognise strong performance and business outcomes
  • An employee share program, offering the opportunity to invest in the long‑term success of the business
  • Workplace banking benefits and financial wellbeing support to help manage your finances with confidence
  • Purchased leave options, allowing you to increase your annual leave when life demands greater flexibility
  • Travel benefits through preferred suppliers, including accommodation and car hire savings
  • Lifestyle, fitness and wellness offers that support a healthy balance inside and outside of work
  • Health and wellbeing support, including confidential access to professional counselling services
  • Leadership development programs designed to build capability at every career stage
  • Employee recognition and awards programs that acknowledge individual and team contributions
