What is the project?
The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment program involves designing and building a new deep-water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant's cooling system. This will involve:
- A 1.5 km-long tunnel, built by a pressurized TBM (10.5 m diameter slurry TBM);
- Two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore);
- An offshore modular intake structure, resting on the lake bed.
The project is distinguished by its proximity to an active nuclear site, requiring rigorous standards of safety, planning and coordination.
What you will do:
Reporting to the Project Contracts Manager, the Subcontract Administrator is responsible for monitoring subcontract performance through continuous progress reviews of each subcontract, including invoicing, forecasting, negotiation and the formalization of Change Orders, claims analysis, and the proactive communication of project challenges. They will help ensure subcontract compliance with project requirements and support successful project execution.
Concretely, your tasks will be:
- Partner with the Project Management Team (PMT), Engineering, Construction, Commissioning, and Operations teams, Customer representatives, Legal, Finance, and other stakeholders to align contract activities with project objectives.
- Maintain effective relationships with subcontractors.
- Support project leadership in developing and implementing strategies for the safe and successful execution of the project.
- Lead the administration and closeout of contracts and service agreements throughout their lifecycle.
- Coordinate contract inputs for proposals, prime contract development, and commercial strategy.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, contractual obligations, and project requirements.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate commercial and contractual risks, providing recommendations to project leadership.
- Establish and manage processes to monitor contract compliance, performance, changes, claims, and dispute resolution.
- Lead the negotiation and resolution of change events, claims, and disputes, coordinating with Legal and other functions as required.
- Manage contract budgets, monitor subcontractor site progress and quantities performed, and track performance against project objectives.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Business, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- 3-8 years of experience in contracts, subcontracts, procurement, or commercial management within the engineering and construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of contract law, subcontract pricing, pre-award negotiations, subcontract drafting, and subcontract administration.
- Experience conducting market research, leading commercial negotiations, and preparing commercial recommendations.
- Working knowledge of engineering and construction subcontracting practices, commercial terms, and applicable regulations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Excellent analytical, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of managing competing priorities while meeting deadlines
- Experience supporting large-scale projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Gross annual salary between 80K and 100K, depending on experience and profile
