General Foreperson
Job Title: General Foreperson
Reporting to: Construction Manager
Business Unit: GGP Transmission
Role purpose
The General Foreperson is a senior-level supervisor on construction sites responsible for the overall operational control, planning, and coordination of multiple crews, subcontractors, and trades. The successful candidate will act as the primary link between project management and the on-site labour force, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
Responsibilities & Duties
Including but not limited to the following:
• Oversee all on-site activities, including direction construction workers, managing subcontractor performance, and organizing site logistics.
• Implement and enforce health and safety legislation, conduct site inductions/daily briefings, and maintain safety records.
• Develop work schedules, coordinate resource allocation (labour, plant, equipment), and monitor daily progress against the construction programme.
• Inspect work to ensure it meets technical specifications, drawings, and quality standards.
• Order materials, manage on-site inventory, and assist in monitoring costs to ensure compliance with the budget.
• Maintain daily site records (diaries, timesheets), track progress, and report to senior managers.
• Resolve technical problems, equipment malfunctions, and trade conflicts to prevent project delays.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications and experience
The jobholder must possess:
• A valid CSCS card, preferably at Supervisory or Manager level.
• Valid First Aid at Work certification or willingness to obtain.
• 5+ years’ experience as a site foreperson or in a similar supervisory capacity.
• Strong foundational knowledge of construction trades (e.g., groundworks, civil engineering, steel fixing).
• Deep understanding of CDM Regulations 2015, risk assessments, and method statements.
• Proven ability to read technical drawings, plan work schedules, and manage budgets.
• Confidence using computer programs for reporting and email.
• Ability to supervise multiple teams and subcontractors effectively.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for daily briefings, inductions, and client liaising.
• Strong critical thinking skills to handle on-site issues efficiently.
• Superior organisational skills to work on tight schedules and manage logistics.
• A full clean driving license
