Help build one of New Zealand's largest and most exciting infrastructure projects 

HEB Construction has been selected to deliver the major civil works for the Datagrid AI Data Centre development in Makarewa, Invercargill. This is a once-in-a-generation project that will help position New Zealand as a global leader in digital infrastructure while creating lasting economic benefits for Southland. 

We're looking for experienced Project Engineers who want more than another subdivision or road upgrade. This is a large-scale heavy civil project involving significant earthworks, drainage, roading, environmental management, utility infrastructure, and complex stakeholder coordination.

About the Project 

The Datagrid development is a 49-hectare hyperscale AI data centre campus north of Invercargill. HEB's scope includes: 

  • Approx. 320,000m³ of bulk earthworks and 170,000m³ of imported aggregate
  • Construction of large, engineered building platforms 
  • Significant drainage and stormwater infrastructure 
  • New access roads and upgrades to existing roading networks 
  • Haul roads and internal civil infrastructure
  • Construction of a six-metre-high perimeter bund
  • Environmental, dewatering and wetland interface works
  • Supporting infrastructure for future power and data connectivity

This project will expose engineers to large-scale civil construction challenges rarely seen elsewhere in New Zealand. 

The Opportunity 

Reporting to the Project Manager, you'll play a key role in planning, coordinating and delivering critical project outcomes. 

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Developing and managing construction programmes
  • Coordinating subcontractors, suppliers and site teams
  • Reviewing drawings, specifications and construction methodologies
  • Managing procurement and resource planning 
  • Monitoring project costs and productivity 
  • Maintaining quality assurance systems and documentation 
  • Driving health, safety and environmental compliance 
  • Identifying and managing project risks 
  • Supporting project reporting and stakeholder communications 
  • Providing engineering support to construction teams 
  • Assisting with commissioning and project handover activities 

What We're Looking For 

We're keen to speak with experienced Project Engineers who bring: 

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • Ideally 5+ years' experience in heavy civil construction
  • Experience across earthworks, drainage, infrastructure, roading or major construction projects
  • Strong planning and organisational skills
  • Commercial awareness and cost management capability
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills 
  • Ability to identify problems, develop solutions and drive outcomes 
  • A commitment to quality, safety and environmental excellence
