Job Title: Deputy Security Manager – Unmanned Aerial system & Airspace

Contract Duration: 12 months (renewable)
Work Scheme: Rotational 4 weeks on / 4 weeks off

Job dimensions

  • Manage Project airspace security including UAS (drone) and C-UAS systems
  • Plan and supervise security flight missions (surveillance, reconnaissance, assessment) with Area 4, aviation authorities and service providers
  • Coordinate with aviation authorities and internal teams for air security operations
  • Maintain continuous Airspace Situational Awareness (ASA)
  • Ensure compliance with Security SOPs, VPSHR and regulations
  • Provide daily analysis and reports on aerial, onshore and offshore activity
  • Supervise drone and counter-drone teams (qualification, discipline, standards)
  • Ensure correct installation and optimal use of high-value systems

Activities

  • Implement HSE system ensuring full safety compliance for UAS/C-UAS operations
  • Plan and conduct UAS missions (surveillance, risk assessment, monitoring)
  • Coordinate C-UAS systems (radar, RF, jamming, interception) with Area 4
  • Supervise flight authorizations, No-Fly Zones and aerial corridors
  • Monitor and report aerial activity, including unauthorized drones
  • Liaise with civil and military aviation authorities
  • Report incidents and airspace violations
  • Ensure maintenance and readiness of UAS, radars, RF systems and equipment
  • Train teams on drone risks and airspace security procedures
  • Support tenders, documentation, costs and scopes of work
  • Ensure availability in case of emergency

Context and environment

  • Site-based role in Afungi, Mozambique (tropical, demanding conditions)
  • High-risk malaria zone (precautions required)
  • Camp life with shared facilities; 24/7 availability required
  • Elevated security context with restricted movements
  • Rotational schedule (4 weeks ON / 4 weeks OFF)

Accountability

  • Ensure full airspace security over Project areas
  • Guarantee safe and compliant use of UAS/C-UAS systems
  • Deliver accurate reporting on threats and system status
  • Ensure VPSHR compliance for air operations
  • Supervise personnel and contractors
  • Maintain system functionality with minimal downtime
  • Ensure HSE standards and safety are always prioritized

Qualifications/Experience required :

  • Proven experience in air operations management, UAS or C-UAS operations (military, police, aviation, industrial security).

  • Strong understanding of drone and counter-drone tactics and technologies (RF, radar, EO/IR, jamming).

  • Knowledge of UAS regulations (ICAO guidance, local aviation authority rules).

  • Solid background in airspace security risk assessment.

  • Experience coordinating with military or security forces.

  • Fluent in English (mandatory). Portuguese/Swahili is an asset depending on the operational environment.

  • Strong computer skills (situational awareness tools, reporting, mapping systems).

  • No criminal record.

  • Valid driver’s license and passport.
